MEDICAL CODING/BILLING SPECIALIST DIPLOMA PROGRAM

Bohecker College now features this accelerated program to get you trained quickly and thoroughly in the fastest-growing sectors of the medical field.

Bohecker College is a proctor site for the NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing), which offers our graduates the opportunity to take the certification test for Insurance and Coding Specialists.

Our curriculum is designed to provide you with the skills necessary to work in entry-level positions in the medical insurance industry. Our program focuses on training in general medical office skills such as word processing, computer applications and filing. More specific skills include ICD9 and CPT coding, commonly used in the industry for records and billing. Upon completion of our program, you will be qualified for entry-level positions in:

• Hospitals
• Doctors' Offices
• Health Centers
• Insurance Companies

This program focuses on training students on the skills required for Medical Billing and Coding through hands-on exercises, lectures, demonstrations, and group and individual projects. Students become familiar with the daily operations of the medical office environment, medical terminology, current billing procedures, implementing procedures and diagnostic codes, basic bookkeeping, and the legal aspects surrounding the medical office. Students will also be accurate typists, use their basic knowledge of computer/medical software as well as interpret insurance rules and regulations. They will access information via the Internet, understand billing methods and the billing cycle to generate insurance claims accurately as well as have a clear understanding of administrative operations, the importance of obtaining/locating proper patient information and how information must be documented. We will focus on the financial components necessary to submit a clean claim and be reimbursed within a reasonable amount of time. We will have our students up-to-date on the various insurance types/coverage and the insurance terminology itself. Student will study the billing process in both manual and electronic form.

This skill and knowledge enhancement will enable the graduate, upon completion of required course work, to further develop his or her career as a Medical Biller and Coder through an externship in a clinic, laboratory, physician’s office, hospital, or other setting that employs Medical Billing and Coding personnel.
